Hussaini processions commence

Sunday, February 13, 2005

Contrary to my post three days ago, the Hussaini processions didn't actually begin until last night. I tried taking some photos yesterday but they're not very good. My camera's flash is terrible so I don't bother with it, which is why there's always motion blur. And I don't have much zoom, which is quite necessary if I don't want to be all up in everyone's face. (And needless to say, I'm not as good a photographer as I'd like to be). I'm sure you'll be able to find many other better photos online if you scour the main montadayats. Al-imam.net has got a nice little archive of photos and video clips of the past two nights as well as from previous events.

And by the way, I've created a separate page where I will keep adding links to my posts about Ashura. You can get there by clicking here, or by using the link in the "Musalsalat" section of my sidebar on the right.

I'll try writing about the processions later, but for the meanwhile here are my photos:

The picture comes out blurry only when the night vision is on with my digicam. It has to be completely dark to take pictures with the night vision on otherwise they come out blurry. Try taking pictures with the daylight vision on even if its night time. Just increase the exposure for the pictures to come out bright coz thats what I do with my digicam. Maybe this suggestion will help depending on what kind of a camera you work with.

I was there last night. My grandparents house is right in the heart of the action. Keep an eye out for me- i won't be hard to miss- dressed head-to-toe in black ;)

What a buzz going on huh?

Go the the Marsam alhussaini, its really amazing, u can see the artists at work. I also went past this scultured scene of Karbala which sent a shiver down my spine cos it looked so realistic.

While u won't be able to make head out of tail of me since I will be covered... silly bahraini boy will be hard to miss !
I just hope there is NO haidar on the 9th. I still have nightmares from that.
And the 10th is a NO NO. Manama will be a NO GO ZONE !
